^ A: The Liberal Democratic Party is abig-tent conservative party (see factions table below).[9] The LDP has also been described ascentre-right,[10] but the LDP hasfar-right[11][12] andultraconservative[13] factions, including members belonging to theultranationalistNippon Kaigi.

TheLiberal Democratic Party (Japanese:自由民主党Jiyū-Minshutō; or justJiminto) is one of the mainpolitical parties inJapan. It has ruled Japan for most of the time sinceWorld War II. The party isconservative.[14][15][16]

Since 2025, the current leader isPrime MinisterSanae Takaichi, the first female president of the LDP.[17] Former Prime MinisterTarō Asō has been the party's vice president since 2025. FormerFinance MinisterShun'ichi Suzuki has been the party's secretary-general since 2025.

The party wants a close relationship with theUnited States, and wants fastexport-basedeconomic growth. They also want to undergo moreprivatization. The party issocial conservative,[18] and is against the legalization ofsame-sex marriage. Jiminto is also a Japanesenationalist political party.[19]

In 2012, the Liberal Democratic Party had around 800,000 members.[20] Some important people from the party are also members of theNippon Kaigi, afar-right organization.[21]
