Leon N Cooper[1] (February 28, 1930– October 23, 2024) was anAmerican physicist. He won theNobel Prize for Physics withJohn Bardeen andJohn Robert Schrieffer in 1972. He helped developed theBCS theory ofsuperconductivity.[2][3]

He was also the namesake of theCooper pair and co-developer of theBCM theory ofsynaptic plasticity.[4]

Cooper died at his home inProvidence, Rhode Island, on October 23, 2024, at the age of 94.[5]
