Leeuwarden is acity in the north of theNetherlands.It has about 110,000inhabitants. It is thecapital of a part of theNetherlands where a lot of people speakFrisian. The name of thatprovince isFriesland. Leeuwarden is calledLjouwert in Frisian.

On 1 January 2014,Boarnsterhim is a part of the municipality of Leeuwarden. On 1 January 2018, it was enlarged byLeeuwarderadeel and parts of the former municipality ofLittenseradiel.
