Laura Ingalls Wilder (February 7, 1867 - February 10, 1957) was anAmerican writer. She was born inWisconsin and spent her childhood inMissouri andKansas. She became a teacher inSouth Dakota at age 16.

Wilder is best known as the author of theLittle House on the Prairie series of books. ATV series,Little House On the Prairie, was inspired by the story of her life as told in her books. The series starredMelissa Gilbert as Laura andMichael Landon as Charles 'Pa' Ingalls.
