Latakia (Arabic:اللَاذِقِيَّةal-Lādhiqīyah), is the main port city ofSyria. It is the 4th largest city in Syria afterAleppo,Damascus andHoms with 383,786[3] inhabitants. It is the capital of theLatakia Governorate.Tishreen University is in the city.

Latakia is the home city of two football clubs:Teshrin Sports Club was founded in 1947,[4] andHutteen Sports Club was founded in 1945.[5] Both teams play in theal-Assad Stadium. There is alsoLatakia Sports City complex. It was built in 1987 to host the1987 Mediterranean Games.
