Ketone

Structure of a ketone

Aketone is anorganic compound that has acarbonatom with adouble bond to anoxygen atom (this is called carbonylfunctional group). This carbon atom must also have single bonds to two other carbon atoms.

A ketone can be produced by oxidating asecondary alcohol.

Spectroscopy: A ketone will show a strong peak[clarification needed] between 1690 and 1715cm-1 usinginfraredspectroscopy.[1]
