TheKalmar Union was a royalpersonal union consisting of the kingdoms ofDenmark,Norway andSweden, and various other provinces and areas. At that time, Norway includedIceland,Greenland, theFaroe Islands,Jan Mayen,Shetland, andOrkney. Parts ofFinland belonged to Sweden. The union was started in 1397 when Eric of Pomerania was crowned in the town ofKalmar in Sweden. The union ended on6 June1523 when Sweden left the union byGustav I.[1]
