Sir Arthur John Gielgud,OM, CH (/ˈɡlɡʊd/; 14 April 1904 – 21 May 2000) was an English actor and director.[1] Gielgud was born inSouth Kensington,London and attendedWestminster School. He acted intheatre, onradio,television and inmovies.

Gielgud won many awards, including anAcademy Award, twoEmmy Awards, threeTony Awards, aGrammy Award and twoGolden Globe Awards.[2] In 1992 he received aBAFTA Academy Fellowship Award, a lifetime achievement award. The Globe Theatre in London was renamed theGielgud Theatre in 1994 in his honour.

In 1991, Gielgud became anEGOT winner. At aged 87, he is the oldest person to became an EGOT winner and the first LGBT person to do so.[3]

Gielgud wasgay.[1] He was in a long-termrelationship until hispartner died in 1998. Gielgud died inWootton Underwood,Buckinghamshire.
