
John Cornelius Stennis (August 3, 1901– April 23, 1995) was anAmerican politician. He was theUnited States senator ofMississippi.[1] He served as senator from 1947 to 1989. He was a member of theDemocratic Party. TheUSS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) is named after him. He served in the senate for 47 years. Stennis was born inKemper County, Mississippi. Stennis wasPresident pro tempore of the United States Senate from 1987 until 1989.
Cranston died at his hospital inJackson,Mississippi from problems caused bypneumonia on April 23, 1995, aged 93.[2]
