James William Uthmeier (born November 20, 1987) is an American politician and lawyer serving as the 39thattorney general of Florida since 2025. Before becoming attorney general, he was chief of staff to GovernorRon DeSantis from 2021 to 2025.
On January 16, 2025, DeSantis appointed Attorney General Ashley Moody to theU.S. Senate to replaceMarco Rubio as he became theU.S. Secretary of State.[1] DeSantis appointed Uthmeier to succeed Moody as attorney general.[2]
On February 17, 2025, Uthmeier was sworn in as the 39th attorney general of Florida.[3][4]
