Jacob Jeremiah Sullivan (born November 28, 1976) is an American politician who was the 28thUnited States National Security Advisor from 2021 until 2025 during theJoe Biden administration.
Sullivan was born inBurlington, Vermont[1] and grew up inMinneapolis,Minnesota.[2] Sullivan studied atYale University and atMagdalen College, Oxford.
He was the senior policy advisor toHillary Clinton's2016 presidential election campaign and Deputy Chief of Staff at the Department of State.[3] Sullivan was the Montgomery Fellow atDartmouth College and a senior fellow and Master in Public Policy faculty member at theCarsey School of Public Policy.
On November 23, 2020, President-electJoe Biden announced that he wanted Sullivan to be hisNational Security Advisor.[4]
In 2015, Sullivan married lawyerMaggie Goodlander, who is a member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromNew Hampshire[5] In 2023, Goodlander gave birth to astillborn at a hotel room.[6]
