Isileli "Israel"Folau (born 3 April 1989) is anAustralian professionalrugby player. He currently playsrugby league for French teamCatalans Dragons. He also played for theAustralia national rugby union team from 2013 until he was sacked in 2019. In theNational Rugby League (NRL), he played for theMelbourne Storm (2007–08) and theBrisbane Broncos (2009–10). He left rugby league to playAustralian rules football in theAustralian Football League (AFL). He played for theGreater Western Sydney Giants from 2011 to 2012. From 2013 to 2019, he playedrugby union. He played for theNew South Wales Waratahs in theSuper Rugby.

Folau was born inMinto,New South Wales. He is ofTonganancestry. He later moved toQueensland. He was astudent atMarsden State High School with classmatesChris Sandow andAntonio Winterstein.

Folau is aChristian. In the past, he has madesocial media posts considered by many to beanti-gay. After similar comments were posted on hisInstagram in April 2019, his contract was ended byRugby Australia.[1]
