Aprotein isoform is any of several different forms of the sameprotein. Different forms of a protein may be produced from relatedgenes, or may be made from the same gene byalternative splicing. A large number of isoforms are caused bysingle-nucleotide polymorphisms or SNPs, small genetic differences betweenalleles of the same gene. These occur at specific individualnucleotide (building block of dna-strand) positions within a gene.
