Intel Atom (made asIntel Centrino (2003-2010) in 2003) (formerly calledCentrino Atom (2008-2009)) is a low-powerx86Microprocessor. It was created byIntel fornetbooks,smartphones,tablet computers, andembedded systems. It was created to compete with theARM CPU. Its performance perwatt is still not as good as the ARM, although the overall performance is better. For a givenclock speed, the performance is about the same as aPentium4, but thepower consumption is much lower.
