Ypres (Dutch:Ieper) is amunicipality in theBelgian province ofWest Flanders. The municipality is made up of thecity of Ypres and the villages ofBoezinge,Brielen,Dikkebus,Elverdinge,Hollebeke,Sint-Jan,Vlamertinge,Voormezele,Zillebeke, andZuidschote. In 2007, 34919 people lived in the municipality.[2] It is at 50° 51 North, 02° 53 East.[3] Poison gas was first used here, in theSecond Battle of Ypres in 1917.
