Hurricane Irene was a 2011 Atlantichurricane, which reached Category 3 on theSaffir–Simpson Hurricane Scale,[1] that struck theVirgin Islands,Puerto Rico,Hispaniola and theBahamas, resulting in very serious damage. It also struck theEast Coast of theUnited States andCanada. It formed onAugust 20 and dissolved onAugust 29. In summer/autumn 2011, the name Irene was retired from future use. It was replaced by Irma for 2017.
