Gunmetal, orred brass in the United States, is a metalalloy. It is a type ofbronze – an alloy ofcopper,tin andzinc.
Proportions of its metals vary. 88% copper, 8-10% tin and 2-4% zinc is usual.[1]
Originally it was used for makingcannons. Guns are now made ofsteel. Gunmetal is easy tocast and work on alathe. It resistscorrosion fromsteam andsalt water. It is used to makesteam andhydraulic castings,valves,gears,statues, and various small objects such as buttons.
