Gonadotropin-releasing hormone

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected fromGnRH)

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), orLuteinizing-hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH), is ahormonesynthesized and released fromneurons in thehypothalamus.

GnRH occurs in allvertebrates. This single hormone controls all the complex processes which prepare the male and female for successful reproduction.

GnRH releasesfollicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) andluteinizing hormone (LH) from theanterior pituitary.

GnRH activity is very low during childhood, and is activated atpuberty oradolescence. During the reproductive years, it is critical for successful reproductive function as controlled by feedback loops. However, once apregnancy is established, GnRH activity is not required.
