Galveston is a city onGalveston Island in theU.S. state ofTexas. As of the 2020U.S. Census[update], the city had 53,695 people. The city is thecounty seat ofGalveston County. It is well known for ahurricane in 1900.[6]

The city is about 45 miles (72 km) southeast of downtownHouston.[7]
