Freehold (law)

Inpropertylaw, afreehold (also calledfrank-tenement) is theownership ofreal property. This includesland and everything that naturally comes with it, such as buildings, trees andnatural resources. Freehold is different to aleasehold, in which the property is kept by the owner of the land after thelease has expired.[1] Ownership of a freehold estate isindefinite amount of time.

Freehold is used in the laws of manyCommonwealth countries. It comes from theUnited Kingdom.
