Filemón Bartolomé Vela Jr./ˈfɪləˌmɒnˈvɛlə/ (born February 13, 1963)[1] is anAmericanlawyer andpolitician. He was theU.S. Representative forTexas's 34th congressional district from 2013 until his resignation in 2022. He is a member of theDemocratic Party.
He served as an intern inCongressman Solomon P Ortiz’s Washington, D.C. office. Vela earned his J.D. fromUniversity of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1987.
From 2021 until 2022, Vela Jr. was the Vice Chair of theDemocratic National Committee.[2]
In March 2022, Vela Jr. resigned from the House of Representatives to go work at a law firm.[3]
