Eastern Anatolia Region

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TheEastern Anatolia Region is a geographical region ofTurkey. The province with most people isVan Province. Other provinces with lots of people areMalatya,Erzurum andElazığ. The region is mostly populated by ethnicKurds.

It is next to theBlack Sea Region andGeorgia in the north, theCentral Anatolia Region in the west, theMediterranean Region in the southwest, theSoutheastern Anatolia Region andIraq in the south, andIran,Azerbaijan andArmenia in the east.

The region includes most ofWestern Armenia and had a lot ofArmenians until theArmenian genocide. The Anatolia peninsula never included what is now called "Eastern Anatolia". This is seen as an attempt by Turkey to erase the Armenian history of the region.

It has the highest averagealtitude, largest geographicalarea, and lowestpopulation density of the seven Turkish regions.
