Domenico Modugno (Italian pronunciation: [doˈmeːniko moˈduɲɲo]; 9 January 1928 – 6 August 1994) was an Italian folk pop singer-songwriter, actor, guitarist, and politician. He was a member of theItalian Parliament from 1987 until 1992. He was known for his 1958 international hit song "Nel blu dipinto di blu" for which he won twoGrammy Awards.^[1] Modugno was born inPolignano a Mare,Italy. He was a member of theRadical Party.

He representedItaly at the1958 Eurovision Song Contest, coming in third place.

Modugno died on 6 August 1994 at his home inLampedusa, Italy from aheart attack caused by astroke, aged 66.^[1]
