The Diet building

Diet of Japan (国会,Kokkai) is the nationalbicameral legislature of Japan. TheNational Diet Building is inNagatachō,Chiyoda, Tokyo.

It is made up of theHouse of Representatives (lower house) and theHouse of Councillors (upper house).[1] The members of both houses of theDiet are directly elected. The Diet selects thePrime Minister.

History

The Diet was first convened as the Imperial Diet in 1889.[1]

In 1947, the Diet took its current form.[2]
