David Ross Obey (/ˈoʊbiː/OH-bee; born October 3, 1938)[1] is an American politician. He was theUnited States Representative forWisconsin's 7th congressional district from 1969 to 2011. He is a member of theDemocratic Party.
Obey served as Chairman of the powerfulHouse Committee on Appropriations from 1994 to 1995 and again from 2007 to 2011. He is the longest-serving member ever of the United States House of Representatives from the state ofWisconsin.
On May 5, 2010, Obey announced that he would not seek reelection to Congress in November 2010. He left Congress in January 2011.[2]
