TheCuban Revolution (1953-1959) was anarmedrevolt in the mid-1950's. It was led byFidel Castro against thegovernment ofFulgencio Batista. The revolt took place between 1953 and 1959. Batista was finally removed fromoffice on January 1, 1959. He was replaced by a revolutionary government led by Castro. This government changed tocommunism, and became theCommunist Party of Cuba in October 1965.

The revolt began with theassault on theMoncada Barracks on July 26, 1953. It ended on December 31st, 1958, when Batista was forced to leave thecountry andSanta Clara andSantiago de Cuba were taken byrebels.Che Guevara and Fidel Castro,Raúl Castro andHuber Matos led the rebels. Guevara led the group at Santa Clara. Raúl Castro and Matos led the rebels atSantiago de Cuba. Castro usedguerilla warfare methods.

TheUnited States of America tried to sabotage the newgovernment (Led byFidel Castro)Cuba. TheU.S tried to send them and more soldiers to theBay of Pigs to try and create a surprise attack. Somehow,Fidel Castro got wind of their attack and sent his army to the bay to fight. The U.S force was outnumbered, and faced defeat. Many soldiers were captured and killed in public.
