Crocus (plural: crocuses, croci) is agenus offlowering plants in theiris family comprising about 80 species ofperennials growing fromcorms. Many are cultivated for their flowers appearing inautumn,winter, orspring. Crocuses are native to woodland, scrub and meadows from sea level to alpine tundra in central and southernEurope,North Africa and the Middle East, on the islands of theAegean, and acrossCentral Asia to westernChina.
