Acombatant is a person whofights in anarmedconflict. Combatants in an interstate armed conflict are protected by parts of theGeneva Conventions as long as they obey therules of war.[1] Those who fights with non-state armed groups in a non-interstate armed conflicts are not immune from prosecution for waging war against State forces.[2]
