Christopher John Hipkins (born 5 September 1978) is a New Zealandpolitician. He became the 41stLeader of the Opposition on 27 November 2023. He was thePrime Minister of New Zealand from January 2023 until November 2023. He became the leader of theNew Zealand Labour Party in January 2023.[2]

He was theminister ofeducation,police,the Public Service, andleader of the House in theJacinda Ardern government. He has been themember of Parliament (MP) forRemutaka since the 2008.

On 21 January 2023, Hipkins became the only candidate to replace Ardern asleader of the Labour Party. He became party leader on 22 January 2023.[3] He became prime minister three days later.
