Broadway is a 20.6-mile (33.2 km)-long mainstreet inNew York City. It is different from other streets in that it runs diagonally across thestreet grid ofManhattan,diagonally crossing newer streets. The street also goes throughthe Bronx. It continues north asU.S. Route 9 toAlbany, the capital ofNew York State.

Times Square, where Broadway meets 7th Avenue and 42nd Street, is a center ofentertainment and is famous for its manyBroadway theatres andstage plays.

One of theNew York City Subway lines, theBMT Broadway Line, runs under the street in Manhattan, south of Times Square. TheIRT Broadway - Seventh Avenue Line runs under Broadway, north of Times Square.
