Blake Austin Griffin (born March 16, 1989) is anAmerican former professionalbasketball player. He played 14 seasons in theNational Basketball Association (NBA). He played for theLos Angeles Clippers,Detroit Pistons,Brooklyn Nets, andBoston Celtics.
Griffin playedcollege basketball for two years at theUniversity of Oklahoma, then decided to enter theNBA Draft.
During his NBA career, Griffin was a 6×NBA All-Star, the 2011Rookie of the Year, and the winner of the 2011NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion.[2][3]
In the 2009 NBA Draft, the Clippers chose him with the first pick. However, Griffin broke a kneecap during the preseason and missed the entire 2009-2010 season.[4] He finally played his first regular season NBA game on October 27, 2010. Griffin scored 20 points and had 14 rebounds, although the Clippers lost to thePortland Trail Blazers, 98-88.[5]
Griffin quickly became known as a hard working player and a good dunker. He was chosen to be in the slam dunk contest during the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend, and was also chosen to play in the 2011 NBA All-Star Game.[6]
On April 16, 2024, Griffin announced that he was retiring from playing professional basketball.[7]
