Big Sur (/ˈsɜːr/) is a rugged and mountainous section of theCentral Coast of theU.S. state ofCalifornia, betweenCarmel Highlands andSan Simeon, where theSanta Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from thePacific Ocean. It is frequently praised for its dramatic scenery.
