Barbara Boxer (born November 11, 1940) is an American politician. She was theUnited States Senator fromCalifornia from 1993 to 2017. She is a member of theDemocratic Party and has been on the senate since January 1993.
Before that, she was in theUnited States House of Representatives. She was also on the Board of Supervisors ofMarin County, California.[1]
In January 2015, Boxer announced she will not be running for re-election in the 2016 senate elections and also announced her retirement from politics. California Attorney GeneralKamala Harris was elected to replace her.
Boxer was born inBrooklyn,New York City.[2] She attendedBrooklyn College.
Her daughter, Nicole Boxer married Tony Rodham (the brother of former First LadyHillary Rodham Clinton) at theWhite House in 1994. They divorced in 2000.
