Bagmati (Nepali:बागमती अञ्चलListen (help·info)Bāgmatī Añcal), was one of the fourteenzones ofNepal. It is named after theBagmati River. Bagmati was in theCentral Development Region of Nepal. The zone contained theKathmandu Valley. The capital wasKathmandu.[1] In 2011 the total population was 3,843,596.[1]
Limestone,talc,zinc,lead andsilver aremined andexported from Bagmati.[2]Brown,white andpinkmarble are also exported.[2] The hilldistricts around Kathmandu arenotorious forhuman trafficking in young girls.[3] The girls are taken toIndia where they are sold tobrothels.[3]
