ThePrincipality of Asturias (Spanish:Principado de Asturias,Asturian:Principáu d'Asturies) is aautonomous community in the kingdom ofSpain. Its area was the oldKingdom of Asturias in theMiddle Ages. It is on the Spanish north coast facing theCantabrian Sea. It is formed by only one province, Asturias, which is equal to the autonomous community. The capital of the autonomous community isOviedo.Gijón is the biggest city. There is anairport in Asturias, from where you can fly to a few places in Spain and in Europe. The region has borders withGalicia (Lugo province),Castile and León (León province) andCantabria.
