TheAltmühl is a river inBavaria,Germany and is about 230 kilometres (140 mi) long. It is a left tributary of the riverDanube.
The river starts in the town ofAnsbach. From here it runs southeastwards it enters theAltmühlsee (a lake) north ofGunzenhausen. The Altmühl passes through the towns of Treuchtlingen, Eichstätt and Beilngries and finally flows into the Danube river at Kelheim.
