AMD started as a company that made products forIntel, another large hardware company, and competitor of AMD. In 2003, AMD released the Opteron, which was the first 64-bitx86 CPU. In 2006, AMD boughtATI Technologies with $4.3 billion of cash and 52 million AMD stocks.[3] In 2020, AMD said that they are buying Xilinx, a company that makes circuits that can be changed using computer code (FPGA).[4]
