1940 Summer Olympics

The1940 Summer Olympics, officially known asGames of the XII Olympiad, were not held.

The games were planned forTokyo inJapan, but the Japanese organizerswithdrew in 1938 because of theSecond Sino-Japanese War.[1]

In 1938, theInternational Olympic Committee decided to hold the games atHelsinki inFinland.[2]

The games were cancelled because ofWorld War II.[3]
