Bothparentssit on the eggs and care for theirchicks.Adult mourning doves usually eat onlyseeds. The parents feedcrop milk to the young. Peoplehunt mourning doves for sport and for meat. Up to 70 million birds are shot in theUnited States every year. Its name, "mourning," comes from itssad-soundingcall. The bird is a strongflier, and can fly at up to 88 km/h (55 mph). |
