Jupiter was known to theancient Romans. They named it for the Roman godJupiter. Jupiter is the third brightest object in the night sky. Onlythe Earth's moon andVenus are brighter. Jupiter has at least95 moons. 75 of these moons are very small at less than 5km wide. The four mainmoons areIo,Europa,Ganymede andCallisto. These moons are the largest. These four are called theGalilean moons. They are called this because they were discovered by theItalian astronomerGalileo Galilei.Ganymede is the largest moon in the Solar System. |
