Maya Angelou (ˈmaɪə ˈændʒəloʊ[1]), rođena kao Marguerite Ann Johnson (St. Louis,4.4.1928[2] bila jeameričkapjesnikinja, spisateljicamemoara,glumica i važna ličnostameričkog pokreta za građanska prava. Godine 2001. ju jeLadies Home Journal imenovao jednom od 30 najmoćnijih žena Amerike.[3] Maya Angelou je poznata po seriji od šestautobiografskih knjiga, koje su počele saI Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, (1969)[4] a koja je nominiorana za Nacionalnu književnu nagradu i nazvana njenimmagnum opusom.[5] Knjiga poezijeJust Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Die (1971) je nominirana zaPulitzerovu nagradu.[6]
