Knjiga je imala značajan uticaj narazvoj optike, te je stvorila temelje modernefizičke optike značajno promijenivši dotadašnje razumijevanjesvjetla ivizije, i stvorila temelje općenauke uvođenjemeksperimentalnenaučne metode. Hajtam je u svojoj knjizi među prvima opisao svetlost kao mnoštvo čestica, što je postalo vladajuće shvatanje u većini teorija razrađenih doXVIII veka. Ibn Al Hajtam je posmatraosvetlosni zrak u vidu niza malenih čestica koje ne poseduju nikakva kvalitativna čestična svojstva osim energije.[3] Ibn al-Haytham se zbog toga nazivao "ocem moderne optike"[4] i osnivačemeksperimentalne fizike.[5]
