USPulp magazine, thirteen bimonthly issues February 1939 to February 1941, published by Better Publications Inc; edited by MortWeisinger, though uncredited. A companion magazine toStartling Stories andThrilling Wonder Stories,Strange Stories was devoted to supernatural and weird fiction, in not very successful competition withWeird Tales. Most of its covers were by Earle KBergey or Rudolph Belarski. Its contributors included AugustDerleth, HenryKuttner and Manly WadeWellman, under their own names and various pseudonyms. Although its companion magazines always publicized each other, they hardly mentionedStrange Stories. The magazine has remained remarkably little known. [MJE]
