Yes, I fail to see why nmap should be at fault. It's like "fuzz"testing (http://home.pacbell.net/s-max/scott/bulletproof- penguin.html):You throw crap at some (program|system) and if it crashes, you found abug (in the program/system, not in the crap :) )
