In the wake of the reveal of the newMetroid Dread, the game is topping the sales charts on Amazon.Metroid Dread was one of the standout reveals during Nintendo’s E3, and what’s been shown has fans excited for the seemingly forgotten entry in the series.
The titleMetroid Dread was a concept for many years, a game that was planned and canceled multiple times as far back as the Nintendo DS. 15 years since it was originally conceived,Metroid Dread is now becoming a reality on theNintendo Switch. Taking place afterMetroid Fusion, Samus will be hunted by terrifying E.M.M.I. robots and will be the firstMetroid game sinceMetroid Fusion to advance the timeline.

With the history beingMetroid Dread along with the debut trailer, it’s perhaps not surprising thatMetroid Dread is currently amidst the top bestsellers onAmazon. According to Twitter userStealth40k, at one point it was the number one best-selling video game in the US. At the time of writing, it’s now number six, which is still very high. Userdakcity also showed that it’s an Amazon bestseller in other countries too such as Amazon UK and Japan.
Prior toMetroid Dread, the last 2DMetroid game released wasMetroid: Samus Returns on the 3DS.Metroid: Samus Returns is a remake ofMetroid II, which takes place four games beforeMetroid Dread. BothMetroid Dread andSamus Returns are developed by MercurySteam, withSamus Returns laying thegroundwork for the 2DMetroid game that fans have been waiting for.Samus Returns has also made its way as one of the top sellers of the 3DS eShop charts ever since the reveal ofMetroid Dread.
Despite its iconic status,Metroid has never been as much of a system seller as other Nintendo IPs likeMario,Zelda, orPokémon. The best-sellingMetroid game is currently the originalMetroid Prime on the Gamecube at 2.84 million sales. However, the wake ofMetroid Dread’s announcement shows thatMetroid might make a comeback in sales. It could be argued thatMetroid’s low sales numbers in the past are due to the circumstances of each game’s release. But the fact thatMetroid Dread is already at the top of Amazon’s charts just days after its announcement brings hope that the hype of its reveal will carry over to its full release and bring a new legacy to theMetroid series. WithMetroid Prime 4 coming out in the distant future as well, there’s a good chance that if it does get unveiled in the future, similar sales figures could appear for it just likeMetroid Dread right now.
