Try something different:

UnderratedMCU heroIron Fist has a new purpose and a new codename: Ghost Fist. Danny Rand isback from the dead in Marvel lore, but not for long;Undead Iron Fist gives the resurrected hero a ticking clock and a job to do, but as the preview for the latest issue shows, his task is getting more complicated.

Undead Iron Fist #2 is written by Jason Loo, with art by Fran Galán. Preview pages show Danny back in action, fighting “wraithlings” across New York City.

Except it seems this is going to bring him into conflict with Daredevil next, who might be the next obstacle between Ghost Fist and his shot at redemption.

"MyGhost Fist." That is what the unknown narrator ofUndead Iron Fist#2 calls Danny Rand. This is the mysterious force that has resurrected the dead hero, though not for entirely benign purposes. "Your time is dwingling," the narrator says, before imploring him to "fight with the new powers I bestowed upon you."

Naturally, the "Ghost" part of Danny's new codenameevokes Ghost Rider; some fans have taken this as a clue that the demonic villain Mephisto is pulling the strings here, and setting the events ofUndead Iron Fistinto action. Others, though, believe that is little more than a red herring.

That's because Danny Rand might not be a literal ghost, but he is certainly the shade of his former self. He has been brought back without agency and set on a path of destruction, andUndead Iron Fist#2 makes it clear he doesn't even realize how much harm he is actually causing.

The "wraithlings" Danny Rand has been resurrected to fight appear to him as twisted, nightmarish monsters, but the art ofUndead Iron Fistemphasises that they are, in fact, possessed humans. Meaning from an outside perspective, it seems Iron Fist has come back only to start brawling with random New Yorkers.

This will bring him into conflict with Daredevil inUndead Iron Fist#2, but that is actually a lucky break for Rand. Despite his street-level hero origins,Daredevil has a lot of experience with the supernatural side of the Marvel Universe, particularly demonic possession. If anyone is going to understand the situation, it is the Man Without Fear.

Many Iron Fist fans have felt as though Marvel hasn't known what to do with the character since hisdisappointing turn in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.Undead Iron Fistis a unique concept for a heroic return, one that complicates the hero's comeback, while leaving open the uncertainty ofIron Fist'sfuture, on the page and in theMCU.
