Try something different:

Ten official episode titles for Hulu'sFuturamareboot have been confirmed. The beloved animated sci-fi series has a complicated history. The pilot of theMatt Groening created show aired in 1999 on Fox, and initially ran for four seasons until its unfortunate cancellation. In an unusual turn of events,Futuramathen received four direct-to-video movies that were eventually re-tooled by Comedy Central as 16 new episodes. Comedy Central then aired two more seasons of the quirky series, which sadly ended its run in 2013.

Though theFuturama season 7 finale offered fans a satisfying conclusion, it left the door open for the story to be revisited at some point.Futurama's formula is similar to that of many long-running animated series, and the show could have gone on for much longer, like Groening's other series, pop culture staple,The Simpsons. After over 20 years since its debut,Futuramais finally returning in a Hulu reboot by the original creators and featuring the entire original voice cast. Fans have been eager for news about the revival, and some hints about the new season have been released.

Hulu has officially confirmed ten of the revival's episode titles toScreen Rant, which tease some returns to previous storylines and explorations of more timely and relevant issues. The official episode titles seem to confirm thatFuturama's reboot will be walking the line between honoring what came before and creating new commentary about the state of the world, which the series has done exceptionally well in the past. See the list of official episode titles below:

  • "The Impossible Stream,"
  • "Rage Against The Vaccine,"
  • "Zapp Gets Cancelled,"
  • "The Prince And The Product,"
  • "Related To Items You've Viewed,"
  • "Children Of A Lesser Bog,"
  • "How The West Was 1010001,"
  • "I Know What You Did Last Xmas,"
  • "Parasites Regained,"
  • "All The Way Down."

The references to vaccines and being 'cancelled' seem like direct indicators that the series will tackle some timely commentary, while the reference to "Parasites Regained" seems to hint that Fry's parasite storyline in season 2, episode 3, "Parasites Lost," will make a comeback. The episode title "Children Of A Lesser Bog" even teases the potential return of Kif and Amy's babies. Based on the titles, satirical character Captain Zapp Brannigan will be making an appearance in the season, which should prove entertaining after the original series' finale considering his obsession with Leela. Overall, the playful tone of the reboot titles promises a return to form in the new season, with a few callbacks, some commentary with a sci-fi spin, and maybe a few fourth wall breaks based on the title, "Related To Items You've Viewed."

With the original team fully behind the Hulu reboot, it's almost certain that the revival will be a fitting and enjoyable continuation of the beloved series. Plagued by ratings issues and contract disputes, the series should have had a much longer run, and now viewers can pick up where they left off thanks to apassionateFuturama fan base that has only grown over the years. Though an official date has yet to be released, the long-anticipated new season ofFuturamais set to air in 2023.
