The classic animated seriesDoug gets a sequel update from creator Jim Jenkins, who also reveals potential concept art in a new video. Debuting in 1991 and ending in 1999,Dougencompassed the entire decade. It follows the titular character, Douglas "Doug" Funnie (originally voiced by Billy West), as he attends school in his new hometown of Bluffington. The show also explored Dog's crush on Patti Mayonnaise (Constance Shulman) and dealt with coming-of-age concerns like bullying and self-doubt. It was a defining show for Nickelodeon, with a movie, a video game, and a stage adaptation.

In an interview withTenn Buick on YouTube, Jenkins shared his ideas for aDougrevival and also revealed concept art for what that project might look like.

In the video, Jenkins noted that he drew up artwork for theDougsequel series with the encouragement of a Disney executive. The sequel would be titledDoug Kids, with the into being a plain white background. This would continue what was established in the original, except that it would feature Doug's two children. There would also be a puppy, similar to Doug's sidekick Porkchop. Another image showed adult versions of Doug, Patti, Skeeter, and Roger.

Here's what I wish would happen. Doug turns 33 years old [this year], something like that, so if you think about that, the fans of Doug have grown up. Maybe some of them have gotten married. Maybe some of them have kids. So, the idea of bringing Doug back now, I think has real power in it.



What Would The Story of the Doug Revival Be?

In the interview, Jenkins notes that the sequel show is still in the early stages of development though the project received approval fromDisney, which has the rights toDoug. The creator shared that the draw of bringingDougback comes with the fact that the audience have grown up with him. Maybe some have gotten married, while others have kids. This is true of the titular character, as well.
