Ta'izz (Arabic:تعز), orTaiz, is a ceety in theYemeniHeichlands, near the famousMocha port on theReid Sea, lyin at an elevation o aboot 1,400 metres abuin sea level. It is the caipital oTa'izz Govrenorate. Wi a population o ower 600,000 in 2005, it is the third lairgest ceety in Yemen efter the caipitalSana'a an the soothren port oAden.

Ta'izz haes a dramatic settin whaur the roads run up an doun the muntain sides. Abuin the ceety rises the 3,006 metres heich Sabir Muntain. The ceety is famous for the auncientJewish Sharab.

The name o the ceety appeared first at the 6t century oHijra, 12t CE, when CEO Mahdi, the brither oSalah ad-Din, arrived in Yemen in the year 1173 CE. Ta'izz wis refortified bi Salah ad-Din’s brither, Taktakeen, theAyyubid.

The seicontRasulid King, Almaddhafar (1288 CE), established Ta'izz as the seicont caipital o the Rasulid Dynasty efter Zabid.
