Skylar Hales Selected in Fourth Round of MLB Draft

SANTA CLARA, Calif. –Skylar Hales was selected by the Texas Rangers with the seventh pick in the fourth round, 108th overall, of the Major League Baseball Draft. It was the program's highest pick under head coachRusty Filter and highest since 2016 when Mitch White went in the second round, 65th overall, to the Los Angeles Dodgers.Hales features a high-90's fastball that touches triple digits. During the 2023 campaign, Hales appeared in a team-high 22 games and tossed 55 1/3 innings while also leading the team with 69 strikeouts against just 15 walks for a K/BB ration of 4.6. He also tied for the team lead with six wins and was second with four saves while posting a 3.42 ERA. He was theWCC Pitcher of the Week on March 13.
Since 2018, Hales joins Eric Lex (2019, 27th round, 815th overall, St. Louis Cardinals), Andre Nnebe (28th round, 853rd overall, Milwaukee Brewers), Keegan McCarville (36th round, 1093rd overall, Milwaukee Brewers), Steven Wilson (2018, 8th round, 231st overall, San Diego Padres), Jake Brodt (2018, 9th round, 266th overall, Toronto Blue Jays), John Cresto (2018, 28th round, 846th overall, Tampa Bay Rays), and Penn Murfee (2018, 33rd round, 988th overall, Seattle Mariners) as Broncos to be drafted.
White, Wilson, and Murfee are all in the Major Leagues in 2023.
